• Note: It gets crowded fast because it’s so small, but the atmosphere is so charming you won’t mind.

Mai Khao Beach – The Plane Spotting Beach

You don’t come here to swim; you come for the photo. Located right next to the airport, planes land just meters above your head.

• The Experience: Take a fun 20-baht sidecar motorcycle ride to the spotting point. It’s a thrill you won’t find anywhere else.
• Insider Update: While still popular, it’s mostly for the “Gram.” Once you get the shot, there isn’t much else to do.

The most famous beach in Phuket. Yes, it’s crowded. Yes, it’s loud. But the beach itself is actually quite clean and well-maintained.

• Good for: Nightlife, easy access to amenities, and… beach massages!
• Bad for: Anyone seeking peace and quiet.

Kata & Karon Beaches

These two neighbors are very similar. They feature long stretches of sand and plenty of sunbeds.

• The Verdict: They are “okay.” They are great if you want to tan and be near hotels, but they lack the unique charm of Nai Harn or Nai Thon. Karon, in particular, has very little shade, so bring sunscreen!

Surin & Kamala Beaches

Located on the west coast, these beaches offer a mix of nice sand and beachfront dining.

• 2026 Update: Surin has become stricter with sun loungers (often banned), so you might need to lay on the sand. Kamala offers a chilled vibe with some great sunset bars.

• Chalong Bay: It’s a pier, not a beach. Only go here if you are catching a boat to an island.
